Early in our quest, my wife Alene and I drove many roads looking for answers to questions we had about our pioneer ancestors. One day we back-tracked the pioneer trail along the North Platte River in Wyoming. Another beautiful day we found roots driving down the Virgin River from Zions Park. On other days we explored the endless expanses online and the folders of memorabilia "left for posterity" that we inherited from our parents. Through it all, our gratitude for those who came before increased and our commitment to not let the past die increased ten fold. Check out the links below for just a tiny speck of perspective.
Some valuable lessons learned:
- Memories evolve over the years,
- Events gain and lose emphasis.
- Hindsight carries its own distortion, and
- Attitudes fall prey to the power of suggestion.
