The Search for Light
Gems from microfilm.......
I have cherished memories of my mother working late into the night on family group sheets and genealogical research. I often thought "What drives her to put forth such tedious effort?" One day, after I had begun my own search, I came across a microfilm containing digital images of an old, hand written record of my great-grandmother Lydia Knight's ordinance work performed in the St. George Temple. The thrill I experienced at that find exceeded any I had known from my hunting days or from geocaching -- and then I knew the answer.
The location depicted here is where our Grandmother Lydia Goldthwaite Knight and her daughter Lydia Knight Young spent so many hours doing work for their deceased family members.
The light that comes from finding truths from the past while doing family history research can fill your mind and heart with peace. Learning more about one of your ancestors or visiting their final resting place or doing an internet or library search will bring you joy. The spirit that goes with this great work -- will improve your life and take you to places you never dreamed of.
One of the most interesting stories of my pioneer ancestors is that of the mysterious disappearance of great-great-grandmother Elizabeth Mainwaring Brockbank, who was lost on the plains of Wyoming during her westward trek. She was never found. After I studied her life I packed my family into the pickup truck and headed for the North Platte River in eastern Wyoming.
There I found the old Mormon Trail of my ancestors....
