Betsy Artlip (1788-1843)
Betsy Artlip was born in Schenectady, New York in 1788. She was the daughter of Christopher Artlip, a German mercenary who remained in the colonies after the revolutionary war, and Eva Ostrander, whose Dutch ancestors had been in New York for over one hundred years.
Betsy became the mother of eleven children and was left a widow at the age of forty-six with a large family still at home. She moved the family to Michigan where her oldest son Asa lived. She resided there until her own death eight years later in 1843. Link to The Artlip Family, 1980, by Elaine C.
