Some of our Journeys....Of the Mind and Body
Here are some excursions -- mental ones and physical ones. Some are Family History projects that were undertaken to discover the past, especially who the players were, where the traveled and lived and what they made of themselves, their families, and their careers -- and what the driving forces were that led individuals to succeed and contribute to the lives of others. The physical ones involve journeying to a special geographical location for the overriding purpose of learning something new, smelling clean air, viewing breath-taking vistas and making memories of the aesthetic. Of the two, the latter ones were the funnest and most exhilarating. As far as learning and stimulating the mind, it is a toss up, with the major difference being that a great deal of energy and discipline is required to stick with the search for ancestors long dead and forgotten. The lesson learned is "the harder you work the greater the reward."
The spiritual realm exists and it is as real as the flesh that covers our bones. It can be accessed by both kinds of excursions identified here. All that is required is a mind-set or attitude built on principles of objective fairness, honesty and gratitude to our Supreme Creator. Without belief in a living God and the laws He has given for our blessings, I do not see how we can possibly appreciate what our forebears lived for and did for us, nor can we fully enjoy His physical creations.
