Anna Sophie Pedersen (1834-1898)
Anna's birthplace of Lundforlund, Denmark
Parish record 1814-1835, Lundforlund, Slagelse, Soro, Denmark. Anna's parents are given as Peder Larsen
and Ane Cathrine (Kirstine) Andersdatter.
Anna was born 21 Sept. 1834 in Lundforlund, Denmark and christened 23 November 1834 (See above Parish record for Lundforlund, Slagelse, Soro). According to the record of Ethelyn Buchanan Breinholt, daughter of Anna Sophie's younger sister Maria, Sophie married Henry Henningson in 1854 at age twenty. New Family Search contains a baptismal date of 16 June 1896 and a death date of 17 July 1898 and gives source as "church membership records." The New FamilySearch data, do not disclose whether the baptism is in person or by proxie, but if the latter, then the "membership record" death date is very confusing as it is after the proxie ordinance. The single item of clarity in our information, or lack thereof, regarding Sophie, is that she does not appear on the manifest of the Ship Athena which transported all of the other living family members to New York Harbor. We do not have a single item of evidence to show that she ever emigrated to America. Nor do we know of a source regarding when or where she died. We know she did not emigrate with her family in 1862.
Ethelyn Breinholt wrote, in the "Buchanan Book" on page 144, that "all of (Peder Larsen's) children joined the Church except his oldest daughter, Ane Sophia, who was very bitter toward the Church until her death. The reason for her attitude is not known." Note # 1: I have used the spelling of Anna's name as it appears on the Parish record. The spelling "Ane Sophia" was handed down on family group sheets. There is a need here to ascertain the particulars of her "church membership records" to determine where they originated to help solve the mystery of the dates of her baptism and death. Note # 2: On 5 June 1889, Peder and Ane Kirstine Larsen, together with their daughter Maria Larsen Buchanan, with Daniel H. Wells officiating, were sealed as parents and child. Maria, then acting as proxie was sealed to her parents for her deceased sister Karen Sophie Larsen Grier. It is of particular interest that the sealing ordinance was not completed for Ane Sophie Pedersen or Larsen until 1966. |
